About Me

In all of her works, Panda Suwann, based in Jersey City, uses many different mediums to convey social issues and life conflicts while intriguing the audience with her use of outlandish, quirky methods and materials. This local, young artist creates not just art but dialogues that help further the causes of women’s rights while highlighting the negative affects of social media in today’s society. She uses her bold attitudes when choosing materials that can be anything from food-based products to textiles. These choices are inspired from her years as a seamstress and growing up in her family's restaurant where she learned to appreciate attention to detail, pushing the envelope and creativity.

With many influences from philosophers and artists, she mainly draws on her inspirations from feminist clothing artist, Mimi Smith. Her other main influence is the neo-German expressionist, Anselm Kiefer, who is known his extremely bold and often dark approaches that convey metaphorical ideas, emotions and concepts. Both artists are known for using materials that many other individuals would never dream of utilizing.

Suwann aims to help educate and provoke new ideas for a better life that is separate from the apathetic and disassociated path that humanity seems to be headed towards. Her expectations for the future drive her into creating these works in order to one day help her peers of Generation Me rise above their myopic selfishness. If her dreams become reality, her art will cause change by allowing greater self-awareness and continue to challenge these misconceptions that have led to what she believes is the wrong way to live a full and complete life.
